The front of this 1 1/4" medal depicts the statue of St. Cecilia found in the Catacombe di San Callisto in Rome. St. Cecilia's body (and over 500,000 other martyrs including seven popes) were buried here in the largest of Rome’s catacombs founded at the end of the 2nd century. When St. Cecilia's body was exhumed to be moved in 1599, more than a thousand years after her death, it was perfectly preserved. The sculpture now found in the catacombs is a replica of her exhumed body. She is the patron saint of musicians. St. Cecilia, pray for us!
